2008 “NOAHS COURAGE WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT RECAP

Boonsboro Pharmacy: They finally lived up to their potential by winning the 2008 tourney in dramatic fashion.  In the bottom of the 7th Dave Gordon hit a two run shot to give BP their first championship and cap a perfect 7-0 day.  If a MVP trophy had been presented it arguably would have gone to Darin Gordon, who had a big day with his bat.  They didn’t allow a run until the semi-finals.

Hawaiian Limousines: Last year it was Seven Shades, this time it was Boonsboro Pharmacy who defeated HL in the finals.  Ropp & Larsen paced the squad.  Can they hold the unit together for another run at the title in ’09?

Seven Shades Landscaping: A 4-0 record got them the #2 seed, but they couldn’t sustain their momentum in the playoffs.  They went 2-1 without ace pitcher Byrnes.

Ability Prosthetics: Pitcher Marc Horgos took over where he left off from last year as AP landed a #4 seed in the elimination round.  They lost in their first bracket game.

TA Culbertson: This bunch of misfits showed up for their third tourney appearance and made the playoffs for the first time as a seven seed.  Dan Martz had a big day with the bat.  Rich Culbertson played like Cal Ripken at times.

Ruppert (Hustlers):
Doug Halsey & Jason Feaga had good performances en route to a #5 seed.  They surprised AP before bowing out to the eventual champions 3-2.  The absence of John Harich may have cost them.

Ruppert (Softies): The Softies became Ruppert’s 2nd bracket team when they garnered the #8 seed.  The party ended quickly though as BP steam rolled them 11-0.  Ty Trent & Chris Davitt did well on the mound.

Theragro: Southpaw Dave Ziedelis pitched well while Lance Dixon paced the offense earning a #6 seed in the brackets.  They were ousted 20-6 by HL in the first round.  All four players were making their first appearance in the tourney.

Grove Racing Stables: They were the biggest disappointment of the day as they failed to reach the elimination round after going 2-2 with a -7 run differential.  Normally pitching and defense are their strengths, but not on this day.

MD Varsity: This Sheldon Shealer led group missed moving on to the next round while losing 3 of 4 round robin games.  Ironically Blaine Ridgeley pitched a no-hitter but gave up 7 runs due to a high number of walks.  Katie Gerard held her own making solid contact all day.

Fred Church of Brethren: This William Gonzalez led squad was a big surprise as they proved to be a formidable opponent all day.  They scored 14 runs while maintaining a -6 run differential.

Intelsat/Mt Side 1:
Eric Lund captained this squad which gave it their all before running out of steam.  All four players were making their first appearance in the wiffleball tourney and should be much more prepared in 2009.

Intelsat/Mt Side 2: The “second” team from Intelsat/Mt Side had a rough day scoring six runs while giving up 13.  They were 0-2-1 before forfeiting their last game.  All four players were making their tournament appearance.

Ruppert (Thunderstix): The Thunderstix were unable to give Ruppert a third Ruppert team in the brackets.  Bill Angelis looked good on the mound while Brian Keith had a high OBP percentage.  They were 0-2-1 before forfeiting their last game.
